Japan has temporarily shut down three of its many theme parks in the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The theme parks, namely Sanrio Puroland in Tokyo, Sanrio Harmonyland in Kyushu, and Ghibli Museum in Tokyo, will be closed starting this week of February until mid-March 2020. All three are popular among tourists who are fans of Sanrio and Studio Ghibli characters.
According to a report on NHK, Sanrio Puroland and Harmonyland will be closed until March 13 while the Ghibli Museum will be closed until March 17.
In a statement issued by the Ghibli Museum, they will be issuing full refunds to people who have booked tour slots on the affected dates. Refunding procedures have yet to be announced.
This decision was made following orders made by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to cancel or postpone major indoor events for the next three weeks to control the spread of the virus.
