Gigantic Sinkhole Swallows Road in Japan

Just like a post-apocalyptic movie, a giant sinkhole opened in the middle of the road in Fukuoka, Japan.

The enormous gaping hole, which occurred near an underground work on a subway tunnel extension, resulted in loss of power, water and gas supplies in the middle of the business district.

The 7 x 8-meter abyss also sent stoplights and sidewalks tumbling more than 33 feet and even disrupted operations in a nearby airport, according to an LA Times report.

Several multi-story buildings nearby also teetered dangerously at the edge of the hole.

No one was injured in the accident and nearby residents were immediately evacuated, according to reports, while five major roads were closed off in Hakata district.

Wherever part of the world you may be, stay safe!
