Japan Bans Visitors from the Philippines for the Time Being

With hopes of containing the spread of COVID-19, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced an entry ban from various countries, including the Philippines. As of writing, Japan has put an entry ban on 111 countries and regions, as follows:

Africa

Cape Verde, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritius, Morocco, and Sao Tome and Principe

Asia

Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam

Europe

Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and Vatican

Latin America and the Caribbean

Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Saint Christopher and Nevis, and Uruguay

Middle East

Bahrain, Iran, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates

Canada and United States

Oceania

Australia and New Zealand

All foreign nationals who have visited the aforementioned countries and regions within the last two weeks will automatically be turned away upon arriving in Japan. Visa suspensions and 14-day quarantine periods for all arrivals will also be in place.

The ban will take effect tomorrow (May 27, 2020) and will remain in place for the time being.
