The search for Star Cinema’s newest Darna has been one fraught with rumors and speculation. Following Liza Soberano’s unfortunate departure from the project, one of the hottest topics was who could possibly fill in the shoes of such an iconic character? After screening nearly 300 auditions, ABS-CBN has found their answer in Jane De Leon.

It was officially announced earlier today by ABS-CBN, who also shared that the casting was a unanimous decision across those deliberating. Director Jerrold Tarog, who will be helming the new Darna film, praised her as an “instinctive actress”.

If you aren’t quite familiar with the actress just yet, it’s probably due to her being a relatively fresh face. Although she already holds a fair amount of acting credits to her name, they are in the more recent years. At just 20 years old she has spent the last few years working on television shows like Wansapanataym, Maalaala Mo Kaya, and Ipaglaban Mo. Her film credits include The Debutantes and Walwal.

Her most recent role was in the tv series Halik as Maggie, where she played younger sister to Jericho Rosales. De Leon’s official artist profile on the Star Cinema website also lists her as a model and singer. Her other talents include playing the guitar and drums.
