LOOK: James Deakin Paints Car Bright Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer. It’s a bitch. I should know. Breast cancer has been running rampant in my family for years now, hitting my mom and one of her sisters especially hard. That’s why my heart flew to James Deakin when I read his post last night. In a nutshell, James recently found out that his mom and aunt were diagnosed with breast cancer.

However, instead of moping around and feeling helpless from so far away like I did, James decided to make a stand and spread the word about breast cancer awareness by painting his car bright pink.

“Think of [the car] as an unwelcome mat on wheels that goes door to door and wall to wall telling cancer to piss off,” James says in his post. “Let it also serve as a reminder to all women over 30 to have themselves checked regularly.

If it only achieves that, then we’ve already won.” Read his full post here:

In case you didn’t know, breast cancer is so common in the Philippines that 1 in every 13 Filipinas suffer from it in their lifetime. In fact, the Philippines now ranks 9th in the highest incident rates of breast cancer. I don’t mean to scare you, but if you haven’t gotten checked yet, now is the time. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
