Iskoffee: A Cold-brewed Buzz in a Bottle

It was a bright and early morning but I wasn’t as chipper as I wanted to be. The required readings that I had piled on my desk were waiting to be written reflection papers about. I swear that the amount of readings our professors assign to us get longer and longer every semester! Although it had to be done ten days ago, I was nowhere near ready to begin. Okay, I’ll stop my rants now. I needed help in the form of a tall glass of iced coffee’s cooler sibling- cold brew iced coffee.  A caffeine-induced buzz would do the trick!

Iced Vanilla coffee from a fast food chain nor fancy coffee shops was not an option because that day, your girl was too lazy to look decent in public. Concocting my own iced coffee at the comfort of home was more how I liked it. The preparation of my convenient drink took 12 hours and 5 minutes in total because I used cold brew coffee concentrate from Iskoffee.  Let me explain.

Cold brew concentrate 40 ml Sampler Pack (P135), 250 ml (P120), 350 ml (P170)

Cold Brew is coarsely ground coffee steeped in cold water for 6-24 hours and then strained for a smoother texture without the bitterness. As opposed to the regular iced coffee where a hot brew is poured over ice, this method retains that strong coffee aroma and packs a huge caffeine punch.

Scientific studies suggest that cold brew is less acidic and sweeter than hot-brewed coffee. You can even drink it cold or hot.

I’ve tried making my own cold brew before and it was simple to do but I didn’t like the waiting part. And then I knew about Iskoffee, a local home-based business that started in December 2015. They do all the 12-hour brewing, steeping, and straining for you using only the best coffee beans sourced from Mt. Province. These are then packaged in airtight jars which you can customize. Perfect to give as gifts!

The other 5 minutes of preparation of my iced beverage was done in only 4 easy steps:

1. Pack a glass with ice cubes. My glass was too big for the amount I wanted to make so I didn’t fill it.

This photo reminds me of you… ang cold. Joke!

2. Pour one 40 ml bottle of Iskoffee cold brew concentrate over the ice. You could even drink it straight from the bottle for a shot of coffee fuel.

3. Dilute the concentrate with 1-2 parts water…

… or milk. Add little by little first, it really depends on your taste.

4. It’s optional to add sweetener but of course I had to add syrup and pair it with pastries or biscuits!

And there you have it, your own cafe quality iced cold brew all done skilfully in five minutes or less! I felt like a barista! Now I could start my reflection papers as soon as I take my first sip and allow the caffeine to awaken my senses.
