Education for all is a pressing challenge in the Philippines due to poverty and social inequalities prevailing in the country. This has made access to formal education limited only to those who can afford it.
Despite the collective support given by the government and different local organizations, education is still inept to many as the existing marginalized Filipino population still lack access to specialized education opportunities which opens possibilities for personal growth and an improved life.
Virlanie Foundation, Inc.’s initiative to combat this was to create the education campaign, Give2Achieve, which aims to raise funds for the Foundation’s education programs which are geared towards providing individuals access to educational support programs and trainings to help them unleash their learning potential and give them equal footing in the society.
Last year, Give2Achieve mostly focused on informal education and education support for children; this year, Virlanie wants to make access to education more inclusive for all regardless of age, sex, gender, identity, religion, ethnicity, and disability.
This June 8, along with Give2Achieve’s launch, the Foundation will hold its first inclusive education event in partnership with De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB)called IncluED: Inclusive Education Dialogues– a half-day symposium that aims to bring awareness and create meaningful discussions on inclusive education among different social sectors in the country.
Happening at DLS-CSBTaft Campus’ Augusto-Rosario Gonzalez Theater, IncluED will gather over 200 youth leaders, local government officials, community leaders, and members of the academe and civil society all over the country in advancing and “redefining inclusive education in the Philippines.”
Speakers and personalities from different education sectors will grace the forum to ignite people’s minds and hands in advancing inclusive education. Among them will be Senator Win Gatchalian, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture, Ms. MarlynVerian-Pulga of Asmae Philippines, Ms. Ma. Ester Coles of Childhope Philippines, and speakers from Benilde Center for Inclusive Education and Department of Education.
