In partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, Ignition recently launched its workshop series at Ignition Venture Studio BGC. Attendees were technology start-ups, members of technology business incubators and Filipino scientists/researchers interested in entrepreneurship.
The first workshop was on Innovation Law and Data Privacy and had the following distinguished speakers on the following topics:
Atty. Juan Paolo Villonco, a distinguished intra-corporate litigator and innovation law expert discussed how to prevent Co-Founder conflict, which is responsible for 65% of start-up failures. The module was a deep dive into issue spotting among co-founders and a basic familiarization on corporate documents such as articles and by-laws and general information sheets.
Palash Gupta J.D. a seasoned VC lawyer who practiced in the US, India and Singapore discussed the significant provisions of investor agreements and gave useful tips to start-ups on what VC’s are looking for in founders, terms and conditions founders should take note of and why and negotiation tactics.
Atty. Jolon Pabiton, a veteran labor and litigation practitioner, lectured on Labor Law basics and hiring. He walked  – Labor Law 101 – Hiring basics.
Atty. Cecille Soria, one of the few Filipino experts on Data Privacy law explained the GDPR and why it is relevant to building a global/regional start-up.
Deputy Privacy Commissioner Dino Aguirre lectured on the basics of Data Privacy policy in the Philippines and listened and addressed the concerns and worries of the Filipino start-up community in attendance. He also gave tips on compliance and listened to feedback on how to improve Data Privacy to help cultivate innovation in the Philippines.
This workshop series also headed to Cebu on September 28-29 in Negosyo Center UP Cebu + Co-working Space 168 Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City, Cebu.
