Hilary Duff fans were disappointed when they learned that the Lizzie McGuire reboot was ultimately canceled late last year, but the good thing is, as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. And that’s exactly what happened when news broke that Duff is instead starring in a spin-off of another beloved TV show—How I Met Your Mother! And yes, the title will be—unsurprisingly—How I Met Your Father.
Variety reports what How I Met Your Father will be about: “In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”
And last week, Duff took to Instagram to make our hearts melt, cry, and feel feels again when she shared this photo of the How I Met Your Father script.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, when asked if HIMYF ties in with HIMYM and how, the actress shared that, though she’s not sure yet how the two stories come together as the script is being changed a bit, Duff does confirm that yes—How I Met Your Father and How I Met Your Mother are in fact tied in some way. Any theories? Given that the creators of the original HIMYM, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are still on board as executive producers for this new show, and we know how crazy the plot gets, we’re guessing it’s also going to be a fun ride to discovering how these two stories are connected.
How I Met Your Mother is a story of hopeless romantic Ted Mosby navigating adulthood, friendships, and making it in New York City while trying to find The One. The show, which stars Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris, ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, and received a total of 28 Emmy-award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
