Let’s face it, with all the petty theft and various “Modus Operandi” in Manila, we’ve just learned to accept that when we leave or drop something important, it’s never coming back. Luckily for the case of “Ate Sam”, some honest street kids found her wallet and decided to do the right thing.

I was on my way to Taft Campus nang makita ko na may dalawang batang tumatakbo at may hawak na wallet. Huminto sila sa may Singalong at may kinausap na pedicab driver(I think magkakilala sila). Palagi ko nakikita ‘tong mga bata sa tapat ng AKIC so baka sa studyante ‘yung wallet. Lumapit ako at kinausap sila.
Me: Excuse me, taga Benilde ba may-ari ng wallet na ‘yan?
Kids: Opo, ate. Naiwan po ni Ate Sam ‘dun sa may Ministop!
Me: Bakit kayo tumatakbo?
Kids: Hinabol po kasi namin si Ate Sam pero ‘di na po namin naabutan.
Kuya Pedicab: Tanod ako dyan sa may brgy., Wala ba kayong kinuha diyan?
Kids: Wala po! Promise!
So kinapkapan ni kuya yung mga bata and wala namang nakuha sa kanila. Sinabi ni Kuya Pedicab na ibigay na lang sa’kin ‘yung wallet at ako na mag turn over sa mga guard. I checked the contents at true enough, kay Ate Sam nga ‘yung wallet. smile emoticon
CSB friends, if you happen to know Miss Samantha Orbe, please inform her that her wallet was found by these kids named Mark Anthony and Vincent. Since sarado ang OSB, sa Security Office ng AKIC ko tinurn over.
Kudos to these kids na palaging nangungulit sa’ting mga students, pero hindi nananamantala. smile emoticon let’s commend these kiddos for their honesty. May pag-asa pa nga talaga ang kabataan.
Rough English Translation:
I was on my way to Taft Campus when I saw two kids holding a wallet and running. They stopped by Singalong and spoke to a pedicab driver (I think they know each other). I always see these kids across AKIC so it’s possible that this wallet belonged to a student. I approached them and spoke to them.
Me: Excuse me, is the owner of that wallet from Benilde (school in Taft)?
Kids: Yes ma’am. Ate (term of respect) Sam left it in Ministop!
Me: Why are you running?
Kids: We were trying to run after Ate Sam but we weren’t able to catch up.
Pedicab driver: I’m one of the barangay watchmen. Did you steal anything from there?
Kids: No sir! Promise!
So the guy quickly frisked the two kids and didn’t find anything. He told them to just give me the wallet so that I could turn it over to the guard. I checked the contents at true enough, the wallet does belong to “Ate Sam”.
CSB friends, if you happen to know Miss Samantha Orbe, please inform her that her wallet was found by these kids named Mark Anthony and Vincent. Since the office was close, I opted to turn it over to the AKIC office.
Kudos to these kids who often bug the students for some change but did not take advantage of this situation. Let’s commend these kiddos for their honesty. There’s still hope for our youth.
Good job Vincent and Mark Anthony!! You’re parents must be so proud of you, they’ve definitely taught you both well.
