This 2017, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP), a prestigious organization of Applied Mathematics majors in UPLB, brings to high school students across the country the return of Math In Action.
Math In Action 2017 is a two-day math camp with the theme ‘Redesigning the Digital World through Mathematics.’ It provides an opportunity for high school students across the country to learn and apply the Mathematics related to the Digital World outside the four corners of their classrooms.
The Digital World is currently extremely relevant in our society. However, we often take for granted the importance of Mathematics and its influence to different aspects of the Digital World such as photography, gaming, animation, media, and gadgets. SAM-UP aims to promote the relevance of Mathematics in this field through a one-of-a-kind Math camp for high school students nationwide.
Over 300 students and teachers have already chosen to take the adventure that awaits them in Math In Action 2017. Part of this adventure is the parallel workshops and seminar that entails interactive lectures about the application of Mathematics in the Digital World, the enhancement of students’ creativity, and the development of their appreciation for Mathematics. The thrill continues as the students form into groups and take part in the Mathmazing Race where different stations will test the mathematical minds of the students. On a whole other exciting level is the Math Rumble where challenging and mind-boggling activities related to the Digital World awaits the students. However, the highlight of the math camp is the investigatory project where the creative and innovative students present their game, puzzle, or device that explains the relationship between Mathematics and the Digital World.
Math In Action 2017: ‘Redesigning the Digital World through Mathematics’ takes place from February 11 to February 12 at the Royal Palm Resort in Barangay Puypuy, Bay, Laguna.
