Hidilyn Diaz Wins Philippines’ First Olympic Gold Medal

Pinay weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz has just made history on Monday, July 26, after winning the women’s 55kg division in Weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics!

Diaz successfully exceeded everyone’s expectations when she lifted 84kg during the snatch event and 127kg in the clean and jerk event, besting Liao Qiuyun, who is currently China’s world record holder.

This momentous win also means that the Philippines has officially garnered its first Olympic gold medal in nearly nine decades.

Previously, Diaz won the silver medal in the Rio 2016 Olympics that likewise shook the nation and the whole world for breaking the country’s 20-year medal drought.
