Filipino Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz’s engagement with her coach-boyfriend Julius Naranjo dominated headlines this weekend, and you just HAVE to look at her stunning engagement ring!

In close-up photos shared by Manila Diamond Studio, it turns out that Julius had proposed to Hidilyn on Saturday, October 16, with a ring that celebrates the weightlifter’s groundbreaking achievement in the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympics as well as symbolizes their strong relationship. The golden ring features a barbell and a sparkling diamond sitting on top of it while the words “Tokyo 2020” were engraved on the band.
“Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz’s engagement ring, was inspired by [her] love, strength, and passion,” the studio wrote in their Instagram post.
“We brought life to what could only be the perfect ring for her. Another gold for our champ!”

Julius proposed to Hidilyn during a dinner date at Sheraton Manila. They then made the announcement on their individual social media pages.
“I’m grateful to God that He sent Julius into my life, he makes my life easy. Alam ng iba kung ano mga sinasakripisyo niya para maabot namin ang pangarap na ginto sa Olympics together with Team HD (Everyone knows how much he sacrifices just for us to fulfill our dream of getting gold in the Olympics together with Team HD),” she said then.
“’Nung laro kinilig at masaya ako kasi siya mismo nagsabi God is the center of our relationship. Kaya walang duda magye-yes ako dahil swerte ako may isang Julius [na] nagmamahal, nag-intindi, at sumuporta sa’kin. (During the games, I was giddy and happy because he was the one who said that God is the center of our relationship. That’s why I have no hesitation to say yes because I am lucky that I have a Julius who loves, understands, and supports me.)”
Hidilyn will soon be preparing for the World Weightlifting Championship in Uzbekistan this December 2021.
