Talking to the program’s host, Zane Lowe, Williams began on the subject of her upcoming solo record “Petals for Armor.” Explaining why she chose to work on a solo album she said: “When I think about putting this out as a Paramore album, it doesn’t do justice to the stories themselves and it doesn’t do justice to the band.”

In connection with the stories she referred to, Williams talked about having to deal with certain childhood issues and traumas in the creative process. More than that, she revealed that her grandmother suffered a dire fall while she was working on the album. Although her grandmother made it through, having to deal with almost losing her took an emotional toll on Williams.

What kept her moving forward in those difficult times — and any moment where she finds herself depressed and suicidal – is her dog.

“My dog is the reason I’m alive because he would’ve been waiting on me to get home, no matter what. You know how little sweet little puppies sit and they wait?” she said. “I couldn’t think about it.”

“I just couldn’t, and I’m glad because life is still hard,” Williams continued.

Despite feeling the difficulties of life, Williams is still able to appreciate how ‘rich’ it is since she has been “taking account of all these feelings.”
