Meet the Cast of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ isn’t even showing in the Philippines yet and it’s already incredibly hyped up, thanks to Kris Aquino, the movie’s much talked about premiere, and its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes on its first day. A lot of people, however, are asking who the stars of the movie actually are and why some of them look so familiar. Well, here are some familiar faces you might see in the movie.

Constance Wu

Constance Wu (Rachel Wu) was in the TV show ‘Eastsiders’ and the TV show ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ after that. You can also hear her voice as Molly in the latest animated movie on Netflix, ‘Next Gen’.

Henry Golding

Henry Golding (Nick Young) is half-British and half-Malaysian and has been a presenter on BBC’s ‘The Travel Show’ since 2014. He will also be in Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s much-awaited upcoming movie ‘A Simple Favor’.

Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor Young) is definitely not a new face. She has starred in many action films in the 90s and beyond, including the James Bond film ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, the amazing ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, and even ‘Kung Fu Panda’.

Awkwafina

Awkwafina (Goh Peik Lin) is actually most famous for being a rapper, though she was also in ‘Ocean’s Eight’.

Gemma Chan

Gemma Chan (Astrid Young Teo) has been in various TV shows, including ‘The IT Crowd’, ‘Sherlock’, ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’, ‘Bedlam’, and ‘Humans’. She will also be playing Minn-Erva in the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ movie.

Ken Jeong

Ken Jeong (Goh Wye Mun) is another very familiar face, especially for those who love comedies. He was unforgettable as Mr. Chow in the ‘Hangover’ movies, and was also in ‘Dr. Ken’ for two years.

Sonoya Mizuno

Sonoya Mizuno (Araminta Lee) is a Japanese-born British actress who was worked with director Alex Garland on several occasions She has appeared in several of his works, including the movie ‘Ex Machina’ and ‘Annihilation’, and soon the Netflix miniseries ‘Maniac’. She was also in ‘La La Land’.

Harry Shum Jr

Harry Shum, Jr. (Charlie Wu) is a Chinese-American actor. If you watched ‘Glee’, you definitely know this guy. ‘Glee’ aside, though, he has also been in other TV shows, including ‘Shadowhunters’, ‘Single by 30’, and ‘Caper’.

Chris Pang

Chris Pang (Colin Khoo) is an Australian actor of Taiwanese-Chinese descent. You might have seen him in ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny’ as Flying Blade or heard him in ‘Naruto: Kakashi vs. Obito – Re:Anime’ as Kakashi, but he will also be starring in ‘Empty by Design’, which has just finished filming right here in Manila.

Ronny Chieng

Ronny Chieng (Edison Cheng) is a Malaysian comedian who is currently on ‘The Daily Show’ on Comedy Central. He is also the star of his own sitcom called ‘Ronny Chieng: International Student’.

Jimmy O. Yang

Jimmy O. Yang (Bernard Tai) is a Hong Kong-American comedian most known for his role as Jian-Yang in HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’.

Of course, there are many more cast members in the movie, including our very own Kris Aquino and Nico Santos; but the ones above are just the ones you might think you’ve seen somewhere but just can’t put your finger on it.

Apparently, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ won’t be showing in the Philippines until August 22, though. Will you be watching it?
