There’s a new Harry Potter game that will play like ‘Pokemon GO’

Since the features and formula of Pokemon GO were so widely popular, why not apply them to another highly beloved franchise? Niantic, the studio behind Ingress and Pokemon GO, is now bringing us exactly that. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is another augmented reality game which lets the player into the wizarding world to cast spells and retrieve magical objects.

The premise for the game is as follows:

A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artifacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these “Foundables,” and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes.

Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing The Calamity.

As a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, you travel to different locations (similar to PokeStops) in order to recover magical objects called ‘foundables’. There will be AR versions of magical locations like Ollivander’s Wand Shop, so it’s not a purely muggle setting. Plus, the multiplayer option allows you to team up with friends to face off against Dementors, Death Eaters, and more!
