This Former Girls’ Generation Member is Publishing A Novel to Give Fans a Peek at Life as a Kpop Idol

Former Girls’ Generation member Jessica Jung is releasing her first-ever novel that will give fans a peek at the life and struggles of a Kpop idol as told by someone who’s lived it.

Titled “Shine,” the novel follows the story of Korean-American teenager Rachel Kim, who begins her six-year training for the debut of a new nine-member girl group with fictional Korean idol company DB Entertainment. Throughout those years, Rachel tries to deal with the pressures of the limelight, the competitiveness of her friends, and her growing feelings for a handsome Korean star, Jason Lee.

Fans can definitely tell that the story is heavily inspired by Jessica’s own life during her time as a member of the most iconic Kpop groups of all time and she did not deny this fact.

Shine was born because I wanted to tell the truth about my experience, the way only good fiction can,” Jessica told Teen Vogue in an interview last June. “But I also wanted to create good entertainment, like I’ve been doing my whole life, and I know that entertainment means blending real details with great storytelling and giving all the characters their own plots to follow.”

“Shine” is currently up for pre-order and will be released on September 29, 2020.
