Tokyo’s Famous Ghibli Museum Is Asking Fans Around the World to Donate to Save It

It seems that Japan’s famous Ghibli Museum located in Mitaka, Tokyo is struggling to stay afloat during these hard times and is now appealing to fans all over the world to make monetary donations to the museum in order to save it.

Ghibli Museum

Ghibli Museum, which is now 20 years old, has drawn plenty of local visitors and tourists over the years who wish to explore its magical grounds that feature tons of characters and attractions from Studio Ghibli’s many beloved films. The pandemic, however, dropped its visitor count to waaay below what they’re used to considering that borders have yet to open for leisure travel. And with the museum in need of many repairs and having tons of large-scale projects planned, it’s admitted that it is “operating very much in the red.”

Ghibli Museum then launched a crowdfunding campaign to entice international fans to help them reach their target of JPY 10 million (approximately PHP 4.4 million). The campaign has already raised a total of JPY 35 million as of writing and all donors were given a special Ghibli Museum Thank-You card as a token of their appreciation.

You can read more about the campaign through their website. Anyone can still donate to the museum until the end of January 2022, except those residing in the UK, China, EU member states, and a number of European nations due to legal complications.
