The internet went crazy just last week when audiences realized that a conspicuously modern-looking coffee cup was left on set for ’The Last of the Starks’.
The cup was spotted on the dais within Winterfell’s great hall, situated almost directly in front of Emilia Clarke as she delivered Daenerys’ lines. Fans were shocked and slightly dismayed that such a high-stakes production would make such a careless mistake.

While HBO has owned up to the mistake and even joked about it on their official Twitter account, fans still looked for an explanation. Executive producer Bernie Caulfield said in an interview with WNYC: “We’re sorry!” then joked: “Westeros was the first place to actually, you know, have Starbucks.
” But he did try to appease people by saying this was an anomaly for the prop team and “if that’s the worst thing they’re finding, then we’re in good shape.”

Sophie Turner, meanwhile, was asked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (by her husband, Joe Jonas, no less!) who exactly owned that coffee cup.
There was a lot of joking that the cup was hers but she defended herself by saying: “I mean, look who [the cup is] placed in front of! Emilia Clarke—she’s the culprit!”
