Fujifilm X Series: The Return of a Sleeping Giant

 

 

Everyone needs a good camera (and no camera phone, please). As a photographer, I’ve always wanted a camera that I can bring along everyday for trips or sudden shoots. Yes, I do use my mobile phone’s camera and I’ve used some of the world’s best mobile phone cameras; but still, nothing beats the control and image quality of a good camera. 

 

 

In 2011, Fujifilm made a huge comeback in the world of photography with the introduction of the first generation Fuji Finepix X100. It had almost everything a discerning photographer would want: a premium body, a fast 35mm angle of view fixed lens, that sexy crazy beautiful retro body that even Leica fanatics drooled over and more: the Fujifilm APSC X-Trans sensor, film emulated Fujifilm colors which thousands of photographers loves and that hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, which is as close to the Dragonball’s Geiger Counter as you can get!

Pictured above is the all new Fujifilm Finepix X100T (PHP65,000 not including the micriophone attachment), which boasts of even faster focusing while retaining everything that made the first generation camera a cult classic to begin with.

 

 

Fujifilm developed an all new 16 megapixel X-Trans II CMOS APSC sensor (I won’t delve deeper into the technical details, but this is a bigger sensor than most of the point-and-shoot cameras in the market right now), which promises better low light performance. The shot taken above is straight out of the camera. No post processing was done except for resizing it for the web. Even at ISO 6400, it is still very usable.

 

 

If shelling out PHP65,000 is not your cup of tea, Fujifilm also released the 3rd generation of the digital compact X camera series, the Fujifilm X30 (PHP32,000). It still carries a decent sized 2/3 sensor from the older X10 and X20 but like it’s more expensive sibling the Fujifilm X100T, it now sports the new X-Trans II CMOS sensor. With a huge electronic viewfinder, a quicker auto-focus than its predecessors, a tiltable screen and a well-implemented Wi-Fi capability; this camera could be the on-the-go blogger’s dream come true.

 

 

In the world of action photography, Fujifilm also aims to please such shooters with the beautiful Fujifilm XT-1. Pictured above is the Fujifilm XT-1 Graphite Silver Edition with a very reasonable price of PHP64,900. Yes, PHP64,990 for a mere camera body is reasonable, especially in the professional camera class: premium build quality, an insanely quick and accurate autofocus system and one of the biggest viewfinders in the business. This is probably the camera that I would’ve bought if I wasn’t deeply invested in my current system.
