Forbes Releases List of the World’s Richest Athletes; Here’s Who Got the Top One Spot

Forbes Magazine officially released its list of this year’s highest-paid athletes in the world.

Making his big debut at the number one spot is Swiss tennis icon, Roger Federer, who earned a total of $106.3 million over the past 12 months. This marks the first time a tennis player has ever topped the annual list since 1990.

Meanwhile, soccer greats Cristiano Ronaldo ($105 million), Messi ($104 million) and Neymar ($95.5 million), as well as basketball star LeBron James ($88.2 million) completed the top 5.

Naomi Osaka ($37.4 million) also made her big debut as the highest-paid female athlete at number 29, surpassing fellow tennis player Serena Williams ($36 million) who landed on number 33. The two were also the only women on the list.

A total of 35 basketball players and 31 American football players dominated the list. The rest hailed from 21 different countries across eight other sports, including motor racing, boxing, and golf.

The top 100 earned a combined total of US$3.6 billion (~PHP 181 billion) from June 1, 2019, to June 1, 2020.
