Filipino Public School Teachers Will be Trained to Teach Mandarin

A memorandum of agreement has been signed to train Filipino public school teachers for Master of Arts in Education, Major in Chinese Language Teaching (MAEd CLT).

In partnership with the Confucius Institute, the Department of Education (DepEd) will be training 300 Filipino teachers in the next five years to teach Mandarin in support of the sustainable development of the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL)-Chinese Mandarin in public secondary schools.

The Master’s Degree program will take two years to complete and will require the teachers to study in China for six months.

According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, proficiency in language is an indicator of quality education and this program hopes to improve the quality of education in the Philippines.
