When In Manila and trying to show the public that you’re doing your job, then releasing badly photoshopped pics of you investigating a recent national disaster is not a good idea.
They’re currently a DPWH photo going around that’s as so obviously fake that I had to make an article title that just points that out.
The Department of Public Works and Highways, or DPWH, seemingly tried to show the public how our taxpayers money is being spent. They released a photo on their DPWH Facebook Page showing themselves investigating the recent collapsed walls of Manila Bay due to the Typhoon Pedring (international call sign Nesat).
The DPWH wanted to show the Philippines, and the world, that government officials here are “working hard” but instead showed the “hardly working” side of our elite public leaders.
This infamous photo was only posted for two minutes on the DPWH Facebook page but apparently, two minutes online is an eternity! That’s all the time people needed to take screenshots and copy it for the DPWH legacy to be begin! Thus, #DPWHing was born!

Public Relations officers of the DPWH released some statements saying the photos were not meant to be released, that the photos were not meant to go online, that the photos were supposed to be for some other magazine that got mistakenly mixed up with the graphics and a bunch of other reasons on why this alleged mixup happened. They had a lot of reasons but they really only sounded like bad excuses, almost as bad as the DPWH photoshopped pics.
To be fair though, they say that these DPWH officials were actually working hard to try to assess the damages and improve on them. This of course may have been overshadowed by the popularity of this seemingly fake photos. Here’s the funny part now, just like planking, owling, and Scarlett Johanssoning, apparently, DPWHing is a thing to do now as well! It’s the newest meme that’s trending with crazy photos online of the DPWH officials in all sorts of crazy places. Where else do you think they should be DPWHing?
