As a certified, self-confessed cookie monster, I’m always on the lookout for delicious game-changers in the market. This quarantine period led me to discover a number of new local businesses, many of which were true delights to the senses. But after a while, my taste buds start seeking treats that are a cut above the rest…which is why Extra Butter‘s extra-ordinary palm-sized cookies completely blew me away!
Extra Butter is a collaboration project between siblings, Ingrid and Renz Mediarito, who are both in the food industry. Chef Ingrid is a product of the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA) Manila and manages her own baking supply shop in Pasig City, while Renz is one of the Managing Partners at Moonshine PUB in Ortigas Center. Due to the pandemic that affected their individual businesses, they decided to launch their own dessert shop together.
Extra Butter offers six unique types of cookies, each satisfyingly oversized and packing tons of premium flavor: Double Milk Chocolate, Triple Chocolate Ganache, Cranberries & White Chocolate, Salted Butterscotch, 70% Dark Chocolate, and Matcha & Black Sesame Seeds.
Because they’re so huge—150+ grams each, to be precise!—each box is worth the price tag knowing that you can share with friends and family. This isn’t to say that you should feel daunted by the size if you’re just ordering for yourself; trust me, they’re so good that you won’t be able to notice how much you’ve eaten in one sitting.
Ingrid and Renz also make sure that they use the best imported and local chocolates they can find in the market, and it definitely shows. Each bite gives you decadence without being overly sweet. I especially love that they make use of brown butter cookie dough because it truly adds depth and richness to their sweet treats.
If you asked me, the Matcha & Black Sesame Seeds and Triple Chocolate Ganache cookies were the ones I instantly fell in love with, but you can never go wrong with the classic 70% Dark Chocolate. I highly recommend getting a box of all six flavors, though, so you can experience them all and discover your own favorites!
