It’s Official: Sequel to ‘Enchanted’ is Coming!

Updated: December 11, 2020

While others are dreaming of a true love’s kiss, I’ve been dreaming of a sequel to the spectacular 2007 Disney princess movie Enchanted starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. And now, I can say that dreams do come true because it’s official: Enchanted 2 is coming!

Disney Studios President of Production Sean Bailey made it official on Friday, December 11, that the sequel, titled Disenchanted is going straight to Disney+.

Last March, director Adam Shankman announced the news on Instagram with a photo of the front cover of the script. “Thanks with all of my heart dear [Disney.] Looks like I’ll be working on a looooooottttt of magic for awhile…” he wrote.

Not only will he be working on Disenchanted, but he will also helm the sequel for the classic witchy film Hocus Pocus. “I feel incredibly honored and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies. My only hope is to honor those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates!”

Following Shankman’s announcement, Amy, who is definitely on board to reprise her role as Giselle, posted throwback photos from their days filming the movie on her own Instagram account.

“That’s our moment, Giselle lovers!” she said.

It has yet to be confirmed whether Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Idina Menzel, and even Julie Andrews, who was the film’s narrator, will also come back to reprise their roles.

Enchanted follows the story of a fairytale princess who is set to marry her prince charming, Prince Edward, with whom she falls in love at first sight. But on her wedding day, her evil stepmother banishes her to the real world of New York City where nothing is as perfect as she had been used to all her life. There, she meets a cynical divorce lawyer, Robert, who refuses to believe in true love and happy endings.

It garnered multiple awards and nominations from the Saturn Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the coveted Academy Awards, among many others.

Disenchanted, according to the official synopsis, will be set “ten years after her happily ever after” when “Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.”
