Electrolux Marketing head together with it’s Public Relations group, Fleishman Hillard with it’s Vice President and General Manager Cosette Ferrer Romero joined us to Ilocos Sur to discover the famous Ilocano dishes from the experts. Ilocos Sur is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon. Vigan City, located on the mouth of the Mestizo River is the provincial capital. Ilocos Sur is bordered by Ilocos Norte and Abra to the north, Mountain Province to the east, La Union and Benguet to the south, and the South China Sea to the west. After a more than one hour flight from Manila via Air Asia, we headed straight to the beautiful, newly renovated and classic Hotel Felicidad which is owned by Jose Singson Jr., a businessman and brother of Mayor Germy Singson Goulart of Municipality of Caoayan.

At the front door of Hotel Felicidad, Cossette and Liana welcomed us then headed straight to the Municipal Hall of Caoayan to have a simple courtesy call for Mayor Germy. At her newly renovated office which just inaugurated a day before we arrived which happened also a day of her birthday, Mayor Germy welcomed us with a beautiful smile and with a delectable taste of Ilocano Empanada, clams spread and drinks. A simple expected courtesy call became an experience we all will never forget and that’s just the start of our wonderful day with the second term Mayor.

The day was just starting and from the Municipal Hall, Mayor Germy brought us to Jose Singsons Vigan House. We discovered that this businessman who is also the youngest brother of Ilocos Sur former Governor Chavit Singson has a heart for old and priceless kitchen utensils. Jose is the owner of several popular restaurant franchise at the area not to mention different businesses at Manila. A very down to earth lad and proud owner of different BMW big bikes, Jose even asked us to use his Segways, as for me, I settled with just admiring his Vigan House which according to him was part of the location of Tom Cruise “Fourth of July” movie.

At Ilocos Sur, you never been there if you did not visited “Baluarte” of Governor Chavit Singson which is famous for the tigers and now, the “Tower” which is the residence of Governor Chavit. Newly elected Governor who welcomed us at Baluarte is no other than the youngest son of Manong Chavit who is Ryan Singson and only 33 years old.

 Souvenirs at Vigan, Ilocos Sur

The historic city of Vigan, which was inscribed in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in November 1999, is found at Ilocos Sur. Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture combines cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines and from China with those from Europe to create a unique culture and townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia. Its Kamestizoan District has examples of typical houses with tiled roofs, hardwood floors, balustrades and azoteas in varying Spanish-Mexican-Chinese architectural styles.
