The UPLB Economics Society, together with the Department of Economics (DE) of the College of Economics and Management, UPLB, bring you ECONVERGENCE, an annual inter-high school scholastic economic convention that aims to promote appreciation of economics through the analysis of relevant social issues in the country.

This year, ECONVERGENCE 2018 will focus on the theme: “Bridging the Gap towards Accessibility to Quality Education: Assessing the Role of the Comprehensive Tax Reform Program.” The event will be held on February 24-25, 2018 at the BP International-Makiling, a standard hotel managed by El Cielito Hotels located at Jamboree Site, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna.

For the past twelve years, ECONVERGENCE has been well participated by various high schools nationwide. The different competitions and activities offered by ECONVERGENCE have served as avenues for students to showcase their skills and knowledge in the application of economic concepts. Furthermore, ECONVERGENCE has served as a platform for enhancing the teaching methods of economics through its Economics Teachers’ Convention.

Approximately 250 high school students and teachers from all over the country are expected to attend the two-day convention which includes seven (7) competitions namely EKONOMIKA Quiz Contest, Intellectual Encounter Debate Competition, Essay-writing Competition, Poster-making Competition, Impromptu Speaking Competition, Mini Documentary Presentation Contest, and Economics Teachers’ Convention (ETC).

There are 18 Official Participating Schools namely, Canossa College, Colegio San Agustin – Biñan, De La Salle University Integrated School, Immaculate Heart of Mary College, La Salle Green Hills, Liceo de San Pablo, Negros Occidental National Science High School, Philippine Science High School – Central Luzon Campus, Philippine Science High School – Central Mindanao Campus, Philippine Science High School – Central Visayas Campus, Philippine Science High School – Cordillera Administrative Region Campus, Philippine Science High School – Ilocos Region Campus, Philippine Science High School – Main Campus, Philippine Science High School – Southern Mindanao Campus, Quezon Science High School, University of the Philippines Integrated School, and University of the Philippines Rural High School.

The event is co-presented by the Department of Economics (DE), College of Economics and Management, UPLB, in partnership with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). It is also sponsored by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology, College of Agriculture and Food Science, UPLB (IFST – CAFS).
