10 of the Hottest FIFA 2018 World Cup Players That Turned My Friends into “Football Fans”

The FIFA World Cup only happens every four years and as someone who grew up in Germany, it is pretty understandable why I am so into it. After all, football is the biggest sport back in Germany and I grew up alongside it more than I did with basketball. However, for my girl friends, the appeal isn’t that evident… until they watched one game with me and, whilst bored out of their wits, caught a closeup of the ever famous, utterly good-looking Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since then, I’ve been receiving random messages from my girlfriends with photos of some of the hottest players in the FIFA World Cup this year. Not only that, I now finally have female friends who get excited about watching the games with me. Granted, it’s not exactly what I had hoped for… I’d really rather geek out with real football fans than swooning ones, but beggars can’t be choosers.

So, if you want your friends or significant others to get into football, as well, you might want to show them this list:

10 of the Hottest FIFA 2018 World Cup Players That Turned My Friends into “Football Fans”

10. Guillermo Varela

FIFA Uruguay Guillermo Valera

I don’t necessarily agree with this one, but of course hotness is subjective and all of my girl friends fought for him to be placed on this, so I added him anyway: Apparently, Uruguay’s Guillermo Varela is an underrated cutie who definitely deserves to be on this list.

9. Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho Brazil

Apparently, Brazil’s Philippe Coutinho is on this list because he has angles where he looks like Panic at the Disco’s Brendon Urie. So I guess if you like Brendon Urie, you’ll love Coutinho, too.

8. Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala Argentina

When it comes to Argentina, everyone talks about Messi, Messi, Messi; but my girls, they talk about Paulo Dybala – which isn’t bad, even if they just like him for his looks. What you might not know about Dybala is that people have been saying he might just be Messi’s successor.

7. Leander Dendoncker

FIFA Belgium Leander Dendoncker

Leander Dendoncker is an absolute cutie. This Belgian national is the complete opposite in looks compared to Dybala. At 23, his innocent looks make him seem like the type of guy you’d love to take home to meet your parents. And then you’d just stare at his cuteness all day.

6. Ian Smith

FIFA Costa Rica Ian Smith

Costa Rica’s Ian Smith is another one of those guys who you’d probably want to take home to meet the parents. Even his smirk is adorable.

5. Duje Caleta-Car

Duje Caleta Car

If you like your men versatile in terms of looks, meet Croatia’s Duje Caleta-Car. Caleta-Car looks great with a bit of scruff on his face, but he also looks great without them because his cheekbones have spotlights of their own. He also looks good with a shaved head! And while he has tattoos, you could easily ask him to cover them up with a long-sleeved shirt and he’ll look like a clean-cut man like magic.

4. Alphonse Areola

Alphonse Areola

France’s Alphonse Areola is ruggedly handsome. Heck, he looks good when he’s mad, but he looks even better when he smiles. Did you know that Areola is actually full Filipino, though? Both of his parents are Filipino, but he was born and raised in Paris… which means he probably speaks French fluently. Oh la la!

3. Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels

It is with a very sad heart that I am typing that the team I was rooting for, Germany, was eliminated last night after a 2-0 loss against South Korea; but that doesn’t mean that they have been eliminated from this list. No, Mats Hummels definitely deserves a spot on here. I mean, just look at him!

2. James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez Colombia

Wait a minute! That’s not a football photo! I know, I know. I couldn’t resist. See, Colombia’s James Rodriguez isn’t just a football player; he actually also has his very own line of underwear, for which he is also the model. It’s called J10 James for Bronzini Black. And he looks great in them. He also has his own energy drink called 10 Gold, which supports his charity foundation for underprivileged kids. Bonus fun fact: he was named after James Bond, but his name is actually pronounced Hah-mess. I hope they win their game tonight.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo

Fine, fine, fine. Let’s get to the obvious now. This is Portugal’s Cristian Ronaldo. Even if you don’t watch football in any form, you probably know who he is. And like James Rodriguez, he has an underwear line, too: CR7. That’s where the photo above is from. You’re welcome.

Who’s your biggest football crush? Did he make the list? Should we make another one? :p
