Donate a Plate: Help a community reach their AmVision

04compiled WIM FINAL 1

With the rise of the healthy eating trend, we are seeing more and more information on the recommended types and amounts of food to eat on several different platforms. With all these conflicting information, we are left to ask – how do we truly know what to eat? A licensed nutritionist-dietitian could recommend to you the “Pinggang Pinoy,” a plate model developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute – Department of Science and Technology to guide Filipinos in planning their meals. However, being a visual guide, it may not be as easily accessible to persons with visual impairment. Thus, it would be best to find a way to bridge this gap, which is one of the goals of project Ating AmVision: Tamang Nutrisyon.

Ating AmVision: Tamang Nutrisyon is a nutrition intervention project organized by Team Tamang TeamBang, a group of BS Community Nutrition students and nutritionist-dietitians from the College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines Diliman. This project is the NCR representative to Unilab Foundation’s Ideas Positive Run 8. Through this project, they aim to improve the nutritional status of persons with disabilities (PWDs) living in Gawad Kalinga PWD Village through activities such as nutrition education sessions using disability-sensitive materials and methods. Through this project’s Donate a Plate campaign, YOU can be a part of becoming an advocate of making health and nutrition information more accessible to persons with visual impairment.

The Donate a Plate campaign was launched in order to raise funds for the production of tactile versions of the Pinggang Pinoy plate model, to be used during one of their nutrition education sessions. For a contribution of PHP 200 to the Donate a Plate campaign, you will be providing a tactile plate to one of the project’s participants with visual impairment.

Help the persons with visual impairment see their way towards proper nutrition. Donate a plate now!
