LOOK: These Pets, Pawrents And NGOs Are Actively Campaigning Against Firecrackers

It’s New Year’s eve tonight and before you put out those fireworks and firecrackers, please consider reading this post first.

People with pets, especially dogs, know the struggle and anxiety these furry animals go through whenever there are popping firecrackers around. This may result to increased heart rate, adrenaline rush, and an increase in the level of stress hormones in their bodies.

Thus, pets and pawrents actively campaigned in social media and on the streets against the use of firecrackers tonight. Just like Brandon here who would like to remind everyone to use horns and other instruments instead.

India, Bea and Mighty are also for #notopaputok. They even went with their pawrents to the anti-firecrackers rally a few days ago at Quezon Memorial Circle.

As mentioned above, there had been an anti-firecrackers rally which was organized by non-governmental organizations, such as Ecowaste Coalition, Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), Care Philippines and CARA Welfare Philippines. The event was attended by pets and pawrents with the goal of convincing people to “Be kind to animals, say no to firecrackers.”

We’d like to thank everyone and their pets for supporting and joining PAWS in the peaceful rally against the use of fireworks in the coming new year. Whether you were with us in person or in spirit (or even just helped us spread the word by reposting our message in your social media accounts!), we are extremely grateful for the help. Firecrackers are harmful to humans, animals and to the environment. One of the speakers in the rally also shared a note on an Instagram post, “For New Year’s Eve make sure to keep your pets indoor and secure. Play calming music to diffuse the noise from the outside. Do not tie them down because chances are when they have a panic attack they can or will strangle themselves (true story).”

Earlier today I got to speak about firecrackers and how stressful it can be for animals especially Cats and dogs. I also learned a lot of new facts about this issue. It might not be a huge concern to many and this exactly why we are raising awareness. If it startles you just imagine how much it will startle a dog who can crisply hear from a quarter mile away (for some even more). For New Year’s Eve make sure to keep your pets indoor and secure. Play calming music to diffuse the noise from the outside. Do not tie them down because chances are when they have a panic attack they can or will strangle themselves (true story). Spread the word!
