Discount Vouchers Addict Goes Crazy for Japanese Cuisine, Seiji Style!

I confess. I am an addict when it comes to discount vouchers. Whenever I find a great deal – mostly foodie deals – I grab those discount vouchers and go!

One of the latest discount vouchers that I’m happy about is Seiji Restaurant’s half-off for Php1,000 worth of Japanese cuisine and drinks.

Seiji is the newest baby of Chef Seiji Kamura, formerly of Tsukiji and Mogu. It is definitely a place for Japanese cuisine that you shouldn’t miss.

A Costly but Delicious Mistake

Seiji has been getting good reviews lately. One of their best reviewed dishes is the Foie Gras Unagi Salad. Unfortunately, I forgot about the Unagi part and just remembered the Foie Gras, so I ended up ordering the Foie Gras Teriyaki (Php830), which was a mix of mushrooms and foie gras in teriyaki sauce. It costs a bit more than the salad.

Foie Gras Teriyaki

It was a yummy mistake, though. The fatty goodness of the foie gras blended well with the tangy mushrooms and the sweet soy saltiness of the teriyaki sauce. It was a simple dish, but it was satisfying.

Rolled Sushi Served With Style

I have a weak spot for sushi, rolled or otherwise. I just think it’s awesome – this single bite creation of meat, rice and yummy extras that’s supposed to excite your palate simultaneously.

So, I got the Spicy Salmon Maki (Php395). Spicy salmon – how can you lose? It was a visual and gastronomic delight.

I mean, the sushi chef topped it with a flower, which I ate (of course). There’s no way you can go wrong with the “here’s something different for ya!” approach.

Seiji’s Spicy Salmon Maki was a big bite but it was a yummy bite!

Relaxed and Friendly

One of the best things that stuck with me about Seiji Restaurant was its staff. Japanese restaurant employees have always come off as a bit stuck-up and less friendly to me. I mean, it could be because of the cuisine they serve or company policy but something about them seems less approachable than, say, a steakhouse employee who will greet you with a smiling “Howdy!”

This is not the case with Seiji staff. They were friendly and relaxed. During the peak of lunch time, the employees were even joking around with each other while going about their business. They let me sit at the sushi bar at my request, too, and hammed it up for my camera. They added to my dining experience.

***

Would I go back to Seiji Restaurant? Definitely. I actually checked the voucher site and the deal was still on – I bought another one. Even at regular rates, though, I would definitely go back for more Japanese cuisine, Seiji-style.

Addendum

I got home still wanting to try the Foie Gras Unagi Salad. So I trooped back to the Makati Japanese restaurant ASAP to make my foodie wish come true.

The Foie Gras Unagi Salad is a visual masterpiece. It is made up pieces of unagi and foie gras on top of bite size cuts of iceberg lettuce. A thin slice of cucumber holds each piece together, making it look like rolled sushi. And as I had imagined, each bite was decadent.

I also tried their Roast Beef Sushi, a choice that’s influenced by my lingering affair with Tokyo Tokyo’s Spicy Beef Maki. That was yummy, too! I loved how the fresh ginger topping complemented the sweet-salty of the roast beef.

I am definitely going to come back here, voucher or no voucher!
