‘Demon Slayer’ Movie Breaks Box-Office Records During Weekend Premiere Despite Pandemic

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie — Mugen Train just had its debut in Japanese theaters last weekend, October 16, and it became a record-breaker in Japanese box-office history.

Its opening had pulled in around JPY4.6 billion (almost USD44 million), with over 3 million people heading to the cinemas to watch this highly-anticipated movie.

For those who are unfamiliar with the anime, it is about a young boy named Tanjiro who embarks on a journey to become a Demon Slayer after his parents were murdered and his sister, Nezuko, was turned into a demon.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie — Mugen Train is a direct sequel to this 2019 anime series that follows Tanjiro and his friends from the Demon Slayer Corps. accompanying Kyōjurō Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, to investigate the mysterious disappearances that occur inside a train.

A second season has yet to be confirmed but, if this record-breaking opening day premiere is of any indication, it probably won’t be long before we get to see these characters on our TV screens again.

It is unknown when the film will premiere locally.
