DEAN & DELUCA: Serving The Best Eats From NYC

Dean and Deluca

Foodies celebrate! If you’re anything like me who eats anything or everything, and watches food related TV shows as much as your sister or mother watches telenovelas, I’m pretty sure that the name DEAN & DELUCA has somehow come up. It is no surprise since DEAN & DELUCA is a world famous delicatessen, all the way from New York City, that started all the way back in 1977. It is the first deli that brought in raddichio, balsamic vinegar, and sun-dried tomatoes to the eastern seaboard.

Started by Giorgio DeLuca and Joel Dean on September 1977 at the now trendy SoHo (South of Houston) district in Manhattan, the two dreamed of a place where customers can experience and celebrate the best of food and the pleasures of eating can bring. Thirty-nine years later, DEAN & DELUCA has expanded all over the globe, with stores in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, South Korea, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates.

Recently opening its doors at the trendy part of Rockwell, Makati, DEAN & DELUCA is somewhat a cross of a small restaurant and delicatessen. Aside from the dishes, this is a place you can still get your jams, cookies, pastries, canned goods, dried pasta (note to self to buy some in the future), and more.

But what we are here for is the food, right? We were invited to have a breakfast and sample what they can offer. Here are some of the dishes they served:

Dean and Deluca

Smoked Salmon Quinoa Bowl – PHP 420.00 – Smoked salmon, organic avocado, seasonal fruits, organic quinoa salad. Light and tasty, healthy and delicious are words that rarely mix for me. It is always either light and tasteless or healthy but unappetizing, but this one is an exception. It is one of their most popular dishes.

Manhattan Sandwich – PHP 420.00 – You can choose between a NY bagel or French croissant for your bread, served with smoked salmon, cream cheese, greens, and dill dressing. All I can say is that the flavors are well balanced–you can taste every ingredient inside that pillow soft croissant. The only fault I found is that one serving was not enough. You just have to have more!

The Scramble – PHP 420.00 – Farm fresh free range scrambled eggs cooked to perfection, French croissant, with either ham or bacon (always get the bacon). An ode to bacon and eggs, this is also a very hearty meal.
