Creative Mornings: Coffee, Talks, and Creative Thoughts

I work in a BPO industry and this kind of job requires us to do a lot of talking. It’s very important for us to be heard and understood by the customers. I always look forward to short breaks, so I can somehow let my mouth and throat rest for a while. Break time for me means shutting up and just sipping a cup of coffee. I am so afraid that I might be losing my voice if I keep talking nonstop.

Creative Mornings

There’s this monthly activity that I got hooked on because it makes me shut up and listen. It is actually a breakfast lecture where different topics are being discussed every last Friday morning of the month.

It is called Creative Mornings.

I first learned about it last July. The event details appeared on my Facebook timeline and it instantly caught my attention. Last Friday, June 26, Creative Mornings Makati held its debut breakfast lecture on at A Space Philippines, 110 Legazpi Street, Makati. The theme was “Revolution” and Carlos Celdran was the speaker. Too bad I missed this one. It was already late when I found out about it.

Here’s a tidbit of an info on how Creative Mornings started. It was year 2008 when “Swiss Miss,” a famed design blogger who lives in New York , aka Tina Roth Eisenberg in real life thought of having an accessible event for the city’s creative community. She had a very simple idea in mindto create an event where diverse folks discuss various things of interest over a simple breakfast and coffee on one Friday of the month where everything is for free.

Creative Mornings gained popularity and is well accepted by many. It soon turned into having themes and speakers, being held in different cities around the world. It has earned a reputation as “the Ted Talk for the rest of us.”

I followed the link and liked the page right away. I even signed up as member and waited for the next event so I can witness how it goes. I attended my first Creative Morning talk last July and since then, I have never missed any lectures. I’d like to say  I fell in love with it. It has been part of my monthly habit.

I have always believed that an inspiring talk can increase your motivation in your own line of work. Let us find time to attend Creative Mornings talks and listen. It may take a little bit of precious time away from your busy schedule. However, it is good to say that as long as you learn something, the effort is never wasted.
