Creative Entrepreneurship Summit: On Pursuits, Passion and Profit
Nowadays, career choices are varied and countless. From deodorant testers to security force trainers to personal gift shoppers, the options are limitless. However, how does one go about deciding on their career? More importantly, how does one make a career out of their passion, regardless of what it is?
At the recently concluded Creative Entrepreneurship Summit at Top Shelf, Fully Booked in Bonifacio Global City, several renowned names from different industries shared their professional expertise and experience while exploring questions on their career pursuits.
Vince Golangco narrating the birth of WhenInManila.com
Mina Esguerra on writing a successful chick lit novel and being a full-time mom
Darlyn Ty, publisher of the famous Belle De Jour planner, on the heartwarming feedback they receive
Organized by Writer’s Block Philippines, the Creative Entrepreneurship Summit gave an avenue for ideas and inspiration to meet.
Guest speakers included social media strategist Ros Juan, foodie blogger Anton Diaz of OurAwesomePlanet.com, Belle de Jour Power Planner publisher Darlyn Ty, romance and chick lit author Mina Esguerra, columnist and host RJ Ledesma, YouTube content manager Josh Villanueva, and WhenInManila.com’s very own publisher Vince Golangco.
The afternoon was filled with anecdotes, and each speaker had a concise outline of the tips that they hoped the audience would take with them.
Ros Juan, Social Media Strategist, talked about maximizing social media to promote your brand
Anton Diaz of OurAwesomePlanet.com, who started his blog just by chronicling his food bonding trips with his kids
All of the topics were relevant to budding creative entrepreneurs such as myself. I was particularly amazed that all of them mentioned that being your own boss is hard work. I think it’s a myth that every freelancer/entrepreneur has to debunk. Of course, as all of the speakers also pointed out, if you pursue what you love, you will stick with it and the joy will far outweigh the hardships.
I believe the speakers’ stories of how they all started out small (I bet everyone would remember Vince’ blog entry with 7 readers), how they encountered rejections, and how they even had to do unpaid work, fueled the courage and imagination of the attendees.
RJ Ledesma on how he used all of his experiences to hone his talents
Josh Villanueva, talking about how one can make money on YouTube
