The Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) is a treacherous one that not only sunk its claws in Luzon but has stretched its reach to include other parts in the Philippines. This includes Cagayan de Oro, which was why Mayor Oscar Moreno placed the city under community quarantine.

He came to that decision when two women at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC)— who were classified as Persons Under Investigation (PUI)— passed away. Both women died within 24 hours after reaching NMMC. The causes of death were Acute Respiratory Illness. While doctors were able to get a specimen from one of the women, it’s still being tested for Covid-19. As of writing, the results are still unknown.
The community quarantine will take place on Friday, March 20, and will be in place until further notice. In addition to the quarantine, Moreno also ordered establishments like malls, entertainment centers, and non-essential shops to close to strongly enforce social distancing.
Talks of Quarantining Nearby Areas
Aside from Cagayan de Oro, the Executive Order No. 049-2020 that Moreno signed also urges nearby areas like Misamis Oriental, and the Bukidnon towns of Libona, Baungon, Manolo Fortich, Talakag and Malitbog to be placed under expanded quarantine territory. He is in talks with Misamis Oriental Governor Vincente Yvegeny Emano, and this city’s congressmen Rufus Rodriguez and Rolando Uy in the hopes for a unified quarantine. Other officials involved in the discussion include Misamis Oriental congressmen Christian Unabia and Juliette Uy, and Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria Zubiri.
