The Department of Health (DOH) released an update late afternoon on Saturday (March 21) that reported 77 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. This puts the total number of cases to 307.

The health bureau said that this is the biggest number of daily cases so far.

On the other hand, DOH also reported five new recoveries today, four of them were elderly.

In a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered enhanced community quarantine in the entire Luzon until April 12.

This imposed a strict home quarantine in all households. Public transportation is suspended. Provision for food and essential health services is regulated. The presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures is heightened.

The COVID-19 pandemic has infected more than 250,000 people worldwide with more than 11,000 deaths.
