Commuting can get tiring, really. When we get a lucky chance to find ourselves seated in a public transportation vehicle, chances are we end up passing out in the duration of the trip, just enough to refuel ourselves before reaching our stop, or destination. Patrick John Carcer is just one of the many daily commuters who found himself on the other side of Metro Manila after falling asleep on his trip.
From end to the other end of the metro, Carcer was surprised to find himself in the South when he woke up.

“Anyway, birthday kasi nung friend ko (it was my friend’s birthday celebration) last Thursday so we went to Mary Grace Greenbelt to celebrate it. After ‘nun, pumunta na kami sa isang restobar sa Makati para uminom. Ayun, grabe puyat puyat ang mumshie mo. 3am na kami umalis sa Makati tapos may pasok pa ako ng 8am ‘non sa San Juan. Edi sumakay na ako bus pauwi. Dapat sa Commonwealth lang ako bababa pero paggising ko SM Fairview na. Hassle lumagpas ako.”
(Afterwards, we went to a resto bar to drink. I lacked so much sleep. We left Makati at 3AM and I had to go to work at 8AM in San Juan. I rode a bus going home. I was supposed to go down at Commonwealth but I woke up at SM Fairview already, such a hassle.)
Carcer clarifies that he missed his stop twice. He initially planned to go to Cubao instead since he planned to go straight to his office.
“Pagkasakay ko ng bus, naisipan ko dumeretso na ng office kaya naisipan ko sa Cubao nalang ako bababa. Ayun pagkagising shookt ako pagdilat ko may mga toll gate na. Nakakaloka. Akala ko pa nga ‘nun nasa Laguna na ako. Ayun nasa Alabang na pala.”
(When I got on the bus, I thought of going straight to the office so I figured I get down at Cubao instead. [I fell asleep again], and when I woke up I was surprised I was in the area of the toll gates. Crazy! I was thinking I was in Laguna, only to find out I was in Alabang.)
Carcer also shared that this was not the first time he missed his stop.
“One time kasi galing kami sa bar sa Cubao tapos 7am na kami umalis doon. Sumakay ako ng bus pauwi, again dapat sa Commonwealth lang ako bababa. Paggising ko malapit na mag Bulacan, hahaha!”
(One time, we came from a bar in Cubao and my peers and I left at 7AM. I hopped on a bus going home, and again, I was supposed to go down at Commonwealth. When I woke up, we were nearing Bulacan already, hahaha!”
Carcer closes, “Mahirap kapag pagod ‘tas ang comfortable sa aircon bus at nakatulog.” (It’s hard if you’re tired and you find yourself comfortable in an aircon bus, [to which I] fell asleep.”)
Well, he had quite an adventure and the best nap ever!
