Chosen Ground 10: NOISE – Louder Than Ever Before!

Chosen Ground 10: NOISE – Louder Than Ever Before!

Everyone at SM North Edsa Skydome got LOUD with the UP Street Dance Club last September 6 during CHOSEN GROUND 10: NOISE!

The UP Street Dance Club’s exciting guest performance

On its tenth year, the annual dance competition was grander and much more exciting than ever before. Twelve of the best crews from all over the Metro battled it out for the chance at the Championship and 25,000 pesos! As part of the theme for this year’s competition, the teams were required to do a segment without music, only using props or their bodies and voices to create the music they should dance to! Each team brought their own flavor to this year’s theme, using dance to tell their stories.

Pioneers of ‘Fil-Eth swag’ or the combination of modern hip hop styles and traditional Filipino music, Nocturnal Dance Company, bagged the first place prize for the group category. The mix of their creativity, integrating the traditional folk dance elements, and the team’s overall strength and synchronization definitely proved they deserved the top spot.

Chosen Ground 10: NOISEStrong second place contenders, FMD Extreme!

FMD Extreme won the second place prize, showing off their skills at oldschool hiphop, particular in popping. Their dynamic character was definitely a plus for the performance, especially because you could tell they weren’t holding anything back!

Just like a DJ turning it up on his turntables, Next to Innocence brought this funky routine to life.

At third place was Next to Innocence. This crew’s performance was fun and entertaining, showing the regular life of a group of guys just hanging out (and showing off how much noise they can make when the boombox breaks). The team was able to incorporate all the different dance styles into their story, and it was definitely a memorable piece.

Some of the most skilled and versatile freestylers showed off their moves in the Finals of the 3-on-3 dance battle, too! Tha Project, made up of Reflex Gotangco, Phil Pamintuan and Gabby Dario, brought home the championship for the 3-on-3 freestyle battle. They proved their exceptional skill in their own styles: bboy, krump and femme, and even went beyond with other styles, showing everyone exactly how they took home the first place spot. The battle was definitely a hard call, though, especially because the other top trios – Audience of One, TMNTropa and Timon, Pumba and Rafiki – also brought their a-game.

A-Team’s Varsity Team shows exactly why they deserved their spot on the World Stage!

Of course, as with any other dance competition, there were also special guests! The audience was delighted to witness strong performances by the UP Street Dance Club, Move Manila, and the varsity team of the World Hip Hop Champions, A-Team.
