Speaking to Flickering Myth, Will Becher said that the British studio is now “overrun with chickens” as pre-production preparations begin to create a follow-up to Aardman’s first feature-length film. This is the first time that news about the development of the sequel has been revealed in over a year since the studio first announced it on Twitter.

“Well all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film,” Becher told the media outlet in an interview for the promotion of the newest Shaun the Sheep movie. “We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks, it became overrun with chickens. So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel.”

Chicken Run premiered in 2000 and was a massive box-office hit, earning $225 million (PHP 11.6 billion) on a budget of $45 million (PHP 2.3 billion). It followed the story of a renegade hen Ginger (Julia Sawalha) who, together with the “flying rooster” Rocky (Mel Gibson), comes up with an escape plan from the chicken farm run by the psychotic Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson).
