Charo Santos-Concio to Chair the International Emmy Awards

Television is part of the Filipino’s culture, what with the number of teleseryes millions of us are glued to every night. But for other countries, movies are favored over TV. Things changed when the US networks produced acclaimed series like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and True Detective. Now, even actors and directors who have made names for themselves for creating compelling films are entering the small screen.

The Emmy Awards is the most prestigious award-giving body for achievements in the television industry. Since launching in 1949, it has awarded actors, directors, and shows that have showed excellence in their respective fields. This year, we’re joining the ranks of the International Emmys as ABS-CBN’s president and chief executive officer (CEO) Charo Santos-Concio will serve as the gala chair.

As the gala chair, she will deliver the opening remarks to officially open this year’s Gala Awards at the Hilton Hotel in New York. The Gala Awards will be held on November 23, 2015, and she will be joined by Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef as the host. Santos-Concio will also attend the Academy Day activities with other member networks from around the world.

According to International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences President and CEO Bruce Paisner, Santos-Concio was selected because of her international influence as a broadcast producer and executive who has spearheaded the growth of her organization to a leading position in the Philippines and the region.

Santos-Concio added:

Viewing habits of TV audiences worldwide have changed in recent years, but what has not changed is the passion of creators to produce excellent, meaningful, and transformative content in different platforms that resonates with people and what the International Emmy Awards celebrates annually. I am honored to chair this year’s Gala that brings together and recognizes the achievements of these extraordinary individuals from across the globe.

The International Emmys will recognize winners from in 10 categories, namely: Arts Programming, Best Performance by an Actress, Best Performance by an Actor, Comedy, Documentary, Drama Series, Non-Scripted Entertainment, Telenovela, TV Movie/Mini-Series, and US Non-English Language US Primetime Program. The nominees are actors and shows outside the US.
