Cafe Alegria in Forbestown, BGC serves all-day breakfast and mouthwatering Latin American dishes that will give you a brunch experience like never before.

Cafe Alegria is the sister restaurant of Alegria Manila located on the rooftop of the Uniqlo building in BGC. While both restaurants serve Latin American-inspired dishes, their menus are on the opposite sides of the spectrum.

You could say that Cafe Alegria is the bright and light sister with meals paired with coffee, while Alegria Manila is the edgy, moody brother that offered the heavier and more high-end meals.

Cafe Alegria’s all-day breakfast menu was inspired by Chef Charles Montantez’s year-long stay in Singapore, where brunch was huge. After opening a restaurant in Singapore, Chef Charles decided to bring delicious brunches to Manila.

The Menu

Their menu is absolutely mouthwatering. Everything is a fusion of the flavorful dishes of Latin America with an Asian twist. The best example of this would be their Kani Nachos.

Paired with crunchy nachos, the kani salad is lighter on the tongue than your usual cheese and beef. This actually makes the Kani Nachos quite refreshing as a starter!

Another best-selling starter is their Puerto Rican Empanada which comes in beef picadillo and prawn. Each bite is just bursting with filling and flavor. The spices involved in these empanadas were blended so perfectly that they will delight your tastebuds.

Main Dishes

For the mains, you’ve got to try their Flatbird and Waffles. Be warned that their serving is massive!

The deliciously seasoned cajun crispy chicken is as long as their massive dinner plates. We just love how the outer layer is super crunchy and the meat is so juicy and tender—perfectly fried!

It is paired with corn waffles which are equally addicting. Using corn for the waffle batter is such a life hack because it made the waffles crispier and tastier than usual.

The mouthwatering crispy chicken and corn waffles were served on a bed of egg, completing the brunch meal. As someone who loves fried chicken and waffles, this dish is definitely a highlight.

If you can’t have a meal without rice, their rice bowls are worth the try. Each one is a hearty serving of Costa Rican Gallo Rice, sides, and savory dishes such as Pork Carnitas, Tuna Tataki, and Chorizo.

Vegans are also welcome here because they have vegan options—including the meatless birria taco! This meatless birria taco is so excellently crafted that I did not feel like I was eating mushrooms and not pulled pork. This is a must-try whether you’re a vegan or not.

Desserts & Drinks

To top off your scrumptious meal, try Cafe Alegria’s Apple Pie. Be prepared to be served not your usual slice of pie, but Cafe Alegria’s more modern, deconstructed take on this classic. You’ll love the chocolate ganache surprise and the side of sour cream that balances everything out.

Their Milo Horchata is a great partner to your meal, too. The light refreshing drink will give you nostalgic feels thanks to the Milo flavor.

Making Brunch Cool and Fun

At Cafe Alegria, brunch is definitely not just about toast and mimosas. The artsy decor and colorful wall mural say a lot about the flavorful food experience you’ll have at this new food spot.
