Retreat to the Tranquility of the Woodlands at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay

Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay welcomes you…

When In Manila and the traffic, the work hours, the urban noise is messing with your Zen, it’s time to insert the car keys and drive South for some rest and relaxation at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay. Isolated from the heavy concentration of boutique hotels and restaurants along Tagaytay‘s main highway, Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay is an expansive estate surrounded by the woods, idyllic for families and groups to escape from the chaos of urban living.

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay

Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay is approximately an hour-and-a-half drive from Metro Manila. Rolling our windows down halfway between Tagaytay City Proper and Canyon Woods, the cool mountain breeze mixed with that afternoon’s drizzle was a welcome experience for this vacation-craving soul.

We arrived at the Clubhouse to check into our room. Our host, Queenie, informed us that the hotel is a two-minute drive down the estate. The resort provides shuttle service to and fro the Clubhouse and the living quarters, be it the Lodge, the Casitas, or residents’ own houses.

Lobby

I love the warmth and interiors of the Clubhouse’s lobby!

We chose to stay at the Lodge, an elegant three-storey hotel with 19 deluxe rooms and 4 suites. Like most of the establishments in the Tagaytay area, the Lodge at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay is built down: instead of the suites occupying the topmost level, they’re located at the lowest level of the hotel.

Welcome to the Lodge at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay!

The deluxe rooms are available either with one queen-size bed or two single beds. The room we stayed in was spacious enough to fit two more extra beds. Mom and Annalyn stayed in the queen-size bed, while dad and I occupied the extra beds. (Yes, we’re conservative in that way.)

Visiting on a weekday, we had the opportunity to snoop around and take a look at the suites. The bedroom is identical to our deluxe room, but the bath area is decked out and the adjacent living room has a 42″ flat screen, dining space, and kitchenette.

Suite

Clockwise: Feel like a boss lounging at the living room of the suite. Enjoy a cup of tea at the suite’s cozy dining space. Your choice of taking a shower or soaking in the Jacuzzi tub in the spacious bathroom of the suite.

For those desiring a cozier, cabin-like (not to mention budget-friendly) living space, Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay offers the Casitas (studio-type flats) which includes a kitchen and dining area, and a bath tub to soak in. Overlooking the resort’s man-made lake, the view adds to the rustic flavor of the Casitas.

Sports and amenities at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay

As an exclusive resort club, Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay is full board when it comes to the facilities they offer. Close to the Lodge is the outdoor sports complex where the pool and tennis courts are located. Further back is the Gymnasium housing the covered basketball court, badminton courts, squash court, and bowling alleys. Kilometers away is the exclusive golf course for share owners and their guests to enjoy.

Facilities

I did say that we were there for the R&R though, so getting a good sweat wasn’t part of our agenda. The shuttle brought us back to the Clubhouse, where we played some indoor games. Dad and I played a game of pool. (I won, naturally.) Then, what started as a friendly exchange of the puck turned to a fierce, full-on battle for air hockey supremacy between my dad and Annalyn.

The Clubhouse at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay also has a gym, a spa, a beauty salon, a mini-theater (showing free movies during weekends), and even a karaoke room. (Thanks to Queenie and the other staff for “volunteering” as models for these services!) But personally my favorite feature of the Clubhouse is the indoor pool, complete with an artificial waterfall and Jacuzzi on the side! We practically spent the morning of our second day swimming and wading through the clear waters of the pool.

Dining at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay

Guests at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay can enjoy their meals at the Clubhouse’s Coffee Shop. They serve local and international dishes; I personally recommend trying their Filipino specialties!

For dinner, we ordered with the help of our waiter’s recommendations. The Boneless Crispy Pata was unique and definitely tempting! Taking out the bone and meat of the pork leg, the pork is grounded and stuffed back into the skin before being fried to a golden brown crisp. The seasonal Tagaytay Tawilis were also delicious! Dipped in salty and sour anchovy bagoong balayan, the bite-size fish were very crunchy and edible from head to tail. (Note: With tawilis dishes, the smaller the fish, the better.) We also ordered Angus Roast Beef Belly Salpicao which was slow roasted to tender perfection, and Sizzling Seafood Gambas which contained tiger prawns (yes, tiger prawns) vis-a-vis the tiny shrimps used for gambas elsewhere.

Breakfast the next day was held at the Pavilion. Across the lake and the Casitas, the Pavilion at Canyon Woods Residential Resort Tagaytay serves good ol’ club resort breakfast of Filipino, American, and international favorites. Three of us ordered the heavier Filipino breakfast while dad – the odd one out – ordered sausages. We were also served free-flowing brewed coffee. For non-caffeine junkies (like Annalyn), you can ask for imported milk instead.

We chose to have a somewhat healthier lunch by including vegetables in our Canyon Woods diet. We had Canyon Caesar Salad as our starter. For the mains, I love how generous they were with the portions of seafood and vegetables in their Seafood Kare-Kare. The peanut butter sauce was lovely, but not overwhelming that the freshness of the seafood would be masked. The Korean dish Kalbichim is another must-try! The rib’s meat was succulent and flavorful and falls off the bone. Dad enjoyed the pan-fried Chicken Steak topped with onions, mushrooms, and white gravy sauce.
