When In Manila, have you ever found yourself in this situation – a big occasion comes up, an evening dinner, an awards night, a formal office party and most especially a wedding (a friend’s or most importantly your own) and you get excited but suddenly realize you don’t know how to start out. This quick guide can help you start dressing for the nines for that special day/night.
1. Consider the venue / theme of the event
Check out where the event will be held. If it will be in a hotel or outdoors like a garden or a beach. Some events would have themes included like Gatsby, or Filipiniana or might have certain color motiffs to wear. If you are a bride or groom-to-be, envision how your wedding will look like and match your gown/suit with the theme. As a guest, look for a design that will blend well with the party and overall theme.

2. Know your body type
There are different types of body types that look perfect in different cuts :
For women :

– Inverted triangle : A-line or Ball Gown
– Rectangle : Sheath, Empire, A-line, Ball Gown, Mermaid
– Apple : Empire, Ball Gown
– Pear : Empire, A-line, Ball Gown
– Hourglass : Sheath, Aline, Ball Gown, Dropped Waistline, Mermaid
For men :

-You should be able to move in your suit jacket
-You should be able to fit one finger between the collar of your shirt and your neck
-When you stretch your arms, your shirt cuffs should not slide up
-Your vest should hit just below the waistband of your pants
-Stick to single-breasted jackets for shorter men
-Wear lower-buttoning jackets if you are bigger around the middle
-Button all the buttons on your dress shirt
-For two-button jackets, button the top button only.
-For three-button jackets, button the middle button, and the top button
-Or, don’t button any of the buttons on your jacket at all

3. Decide on a budget
This really depends on how much you are willing to spend for for something glamorous. Even if you will be wearing it for a day or night, it will forever be remembered in photographs. For weddings, some experts would tell you to allocate 10% of the budget to the attire. But that is not a hard rule.
