If you are not familiar with pubcrawls: the concept is to bring together a large diverse group of people who spend one night going from one bar to the next, drinking, dancing and enjoying each other’s company. While this may sound like one fraternity/sorority-type rowdy party, don’t be mistaken by the real intention of Boracay Pubcrawl: to bring together people, foster new friendships and have fun while doing so!

Borcay Pubcrawl participants come from all over the world

German native Oliver Köllner and a fellow German friend founded Boracay Pubcrawl in January 2012. After graduating from university with a degree in Entrepreneurship, Oliver decided that he needed to be in Asia where he saw the most potential for business opportunities and start-ups. Scoping the continent for a country with high future economic growth expectancy, low expat numbers and a strong English proficiency of the population, he decided to settle in the Philippines.

Moving to the Philippines without a specific business idea, he soon discovered a gap in the party & nightlife scene in Boracay. According to Oliver, a party is always good when you meet people and make new friends – an intention, he says, every partygoer has. Parties in Boracay – as in other places – however, do not bring people together, instead just cater to groups of friends individually. Wanting to change this, he decided to create a party that filled just that need and Boracay Pubcrawl was born: a nightlife event bringing people from all backgrounds, age groups and interests together for a fun time!

With the intention to create a business that would make people happy, Oliver incorporated socializing components into the Boracay Pubcrawl: throughout the night, people play together, talk, hug, smile and make new friends – factors that contribute to their happiness.

To ensure everyone makes new friends during the event, participants play several games throughout the night. This encourages them to interact with one another, takes them out of their comfort zones and fosters team spirit. While the perception of the Boracay Pubcrawl may be that of a crazy drinking event, in reality it is targeted to help you make new friends and have a fun night out. This is quite different from the common pub & barcrawls around the world, which usually focus on the drinking aspect of their event alone.

You may make new friends at Boracay Pubcrawl but don’t mistake this party for a dating event! While it is quite possible to crush on a pretty girl or handsome boy you meet while crawling from pub to pub, participants are not matched and come from all age groups, countries, backgrounds and interests. The company makes it clear that it is not a part of the dating industry.

Recently, Boracay Pubcrawl introduced a new event which happens during the day and out on the sea: Boracay Boat Party! Participants meet in front of the main Boracay Pubcrawl bar ‘Tribaz’ in the afternoon, head over to the beach, play games and then sail away on a two-level party boat. Drinking, playing games, listening to music and partying all while boating around White Beach’s shores make for a guaranteed fun time! At one point the party boat docks and everyone gets to swim.

Starting the company without sufficient initial capital, just a few Pubcrawl shirts, a bar hopping program and the help of some loyal friends, Oliver was able to slowly grow the business into the staple phenomenon it has become at White Beach today. When it comes to his company, he makes sure not to save on labor costs as he is aware that the company is only as good as its team. And this shows: Boracay Pubcrawl employees rave about the fun factor of their jobs and enjoy the family-like atmosphere of their team.
