Bicolano students are set to battle it out in the 32nd Padunungan academic and arts competition from January 6-7 at Bicol University.

Hosted by the University of the Philippines Ibalon, the lone regional organization of Bicolano students in UP Diliman, Padunungan is an annual inter-school competition among secondary schools in the Bicol peninsula that promotes academic excellence while advocating socio-political awareness among Bicolano high school students.

Carrying the theme Padayon Kabataan: Filipino Youth as Responsible Social Media User for Social Change, the two-day contest opens with series of educational discussions to arm the participants with the needed knowledge regarding this year’s Padunungan event.

High school students will vie for the top spot in different competitions that include Tigsik Writing, Quiz Bee, Debate, Photojournalism, On-the-Spot Poster-Making, On-the-Spot Essay Writing (English and Filipino), On-the-Spot T-shirt Design, Impromptu Speech and Cultural Presentation.

Padunungan, which means battle of the intellect, is one of the avenues where UP Ibalon fulfills its vision to be of service to the Bicolano Youth.

Founded in 1974, UP Ibalon is a non-stock, non-profit, socio-cultural university-based organization of Bicolano students whose principal mandate is to be of service to the Bicolano people.

With its rich history, UP Ibalon has constantly struggled for genuine societal change as well as the promotion of Bicolano culture inside and outside UP’s wall and the rendering of service to the Bicolano people.
