A new Lion King trailer just popped up online and, this time, we finally got a look at Beyoncé as Simba’s beau, Nala!
Much to everyone’s surprise, however, not all were impressed by what they’ve just heard.

While Beyoncé’s involvement in the cast of the animated remake was one of the reasons, if not the main reason, why people could hardly contain their excitement for the movie, many confessed to having conflicted feelings over the singer’s voice acting.
Simply put, they found Nala’s voice to be “too Beyoncé.”
It’s like something is off here, maybe the lions look too real for voice overs And I know Nala is Beyoncé but it sounds very Beyoncé. It’s so distracting ? pic.twitter.com/78ffne34Ap

Her voice is too distinct for this. It doesn’t even sound like she attempted to change the sound of her voice for the character. I love Beyonce, I REALLY do. But that thick ass country voice of hers better not ruin the memory of my childhood ?

She sounds like she’s reading off a paper

Beyonce’s voice just sounds very unnatural playing Nala. It just doesn’t seem to fit ?

At the end I thought she was calling us to formation

Others came to the singer’s defense and were rather pleased with her voice-over.
Beyonce’ sounds amazing as Nala

The original Nala almost sounds sad or unenthusiastic that Simba is still alive. Nala should sound happy and enthusiastic. Beyoncé’s intepretation is actually more appropriate.

Ima keep it 100 and say Beyoncé voice acting as Nala sounding a lil off….but we still gone stan

Whatever your thoughts may be on Beyoncé’s Nala, it still won’t take away everyone’s excitement for the upcoming film that’s premiering soon. We’ll just have to withhold our judgment until then, or at least hope that Queen Bey wows us with her much-awaited song number!
