You may have been hearing a lot about foreign exchange trading (or forex trading) recently and you may begin to wonder why. The simple answer is that more and more Filipinos are starting to get into forex trading for the following reasons: it’s the most liquid market, it’s something that anyone can do on their own time and in the comfort of their own home, and only requires capital of as little as PHP 5,000 to 10,000 yet guarantees several opportunities to make profits.
Another great thing about forex trading is that it’s for everyone—and I do mean everyone. It’s not exclusively for those with large sums of spare money. Anyone from different backgrounds can trade forex and earn from it. In fact, Coach Ferdie Pabalan, the number 1 trusted trading coach in the Philippines, sees clients from all over the country who are business owners, professionals, OFWs, retirees, senior citizens, and government employees, just to name a few.
I had the privilege of speaking with four Filipinos, who only recently dipped their toes into forex trading and are now making money, to share their experience and tips for those of you who are curious to try it out for yourselves.
Kent Mendoza, 17, Grade 10 Student
Kent Mendoza is a High School student from the Bayugan National Comprehensive High School in Mindanao who, upon the encouragement and help of his mom, got into forex trading after his foray with the play-to-earn game Axie Infinity.
He and his mom attended one of Coach Ferdie’s free webinars on Born2Win Philippines in December 2021, and again in March 2022 until he decided to enroll in Coach Ferdie’s intensive hands-on course.
“Mabuti talaga [si Coach Ferdie] magturo. Like difficult stuff kaya niyang i-simplify. Maiintindihan mo talaga. Approachable din siya na coach [and] he won’t treat you as a student. Parang kapatid ang turing niya sayo,” Kent said.
Though he’s only 17 years old, he now has earned more than PHP 30,000 per day through his mom who created a trading account on his behalf.
Having this extra income as a student has definitely helped him. “I can buy all the things that I want. ‘Di na ako problemado when it comes to pera. ‘Di na ako umaasa sa parents ko at nakakatulong din ako sa kanila,” he shared.
“Hindi talaga para sa lahat ng tao ang trading. Kasi may iba naman na mababa ‘yung emotional quotient. Iba-iba ‘yung how we take things,” he continued. “For example, if we suffer losses, ‘yung mga iba ‘di maka-take ng ganun. Hindi siya para sa lahat. [You have to be willing] to take the risk.”
Rommel Deraco, 45, Seafarer
For Rommel Deraco, forex trading was an opportunity he knew he would regret if he let it pass him by. He felt that it was a sign when he had just returned home from being aboard a vessel and suddenly received a text message from Born2Win Philippines almost a year after he attended a free webinar. It was that text that encouraged him to take a webinar once again—but he stresses that it was actually Coach Ferdie that inspired him to push through with the training.
“Namomotivate ako sa kanya kasi ‘yung mga stories niya at mga success niya talaga sa life niya parang nakaka-encourage,” Rommel shared.
Throughout his vacation in April, he studied diligently, listened attentively to the lectures, and took all of Coach Ferdie’s lessons, not only about how to succeed in forex trading but also in life, to heart.
“Nung time na nag-trade ako, tapos gumawa na ako ng live account, sinubukan ko talaga lahat ng strategy [ni Coach Ferdie] tsaka yung mga advice niya,” Rommel continued. “Nagulat ako, parang ‘Totoo nga ito ah.’ Talagang nag-success talaga lahat ng mga trades ko.”
To date, the highest that Rommel had earned was PHP 265,000 in one day.
His advice to beginners is to take a forex trading course with a professional like Coach Ferdie who will show them the ropes of forex trading in an easy-to-understand and uncomplicated way.
“Kailangan nila mag-take ng course and every day mag-practice sila. ‘Pag natapos na nila yung course ni Coach Ferdie, dapat ‘wag silang greedy. ‘Pag lose, lose ka talaga. ‘Wag mo nang iinsist,” Rommel said.
“Sabi nga ni Coach na lahat ng advice niya dun sa mga lesson niya, lahat ng technique niya … maliliit lang ‘yun eh, pero kung babaliwalain mo ‘yung mga sinasabi niya, mawawala ka.”
Soledad Bangsail, 59, Lawyer
Soledad Bangsail is a lawyer based in the Sagada Mountain Province who has been doing forex trading as an additional source of income for years prior to meeting Coach Ferdie and taking his course. According to her, forex trading is a more productive way to spend her free digital time instead of scrolling on Facebook and other social media.
“I love the challenge, and of course the earnings,” she said in jest.
Despite already having experience with the subject, Soledad admitted that training under Coach Ferdie opened her eyes to learning different, more effective trading techniques.
“The difference is because I know the basics. I know how to execute. But there are some techniques that he taught like [trading] on the higher time frames and by limit orders, [unlike before when] I trade by market orders,” she shared. “That changed when I joined the teachings of Coach Ferdie.”
She also said that trading felt much “safer” with Coach Ferdie now that she’s able to minimize her losses. To date, she earns 10% profit in one day on average.

David Patilla Jr., 31, Government Employee
David Patilla Jr., like many beginners, only learned about the existence of local forex trading education through a pop-up advertisement he saw on Facebook. Knowing that there’s nothing to lose, he decided to sign up and attend Born2Win Philippines’ free webinar back in February 2022 and eventually enrolled in Coach Ferdie’s course.
What further motivated him to continue forex trading to this day is how much he’s able to earn with such small capital. Plus, he is comforted by the fact that he is the one managing his own time and investments instead of relying on a third party to handle his money.
“Nakikita ko kasi na pwede akong kumita ng lampas pa sa nakukuha ko in 8 hours na nagtatrabaho ako sa government agency, in just one hour and in one sitting,” David shared. “Kahit mag-invest ka ng ilan lang, [and] you apply ‘yung natutunan mo sa klase, may kita ka talaga.”
“Yung maganda kasi [dito ay] alam mo dapat kung paano [mag-forex trading],” he added. “You manage your own money. Kung matalo ka, dahil ‘yan sayo. Kung manalo ka, mas maganda kasi naapply mo lahat ng naituro sayo.”
David also commended Coach Ferdie for his approachable and hands-on teaching style, and for his easy-to-understand lessons that don’t bombard his clients with too much information.
“‘Yung tinuturo niya lang is ‘yung kailangan mo lang matutunan. You do your assignments. You can ask questions pero ‘di siya nagsasabi ng ‘Eto ‘yung gawin mo.’ ‘Yung sinasabi lang niya is ‘Eto ‘yung tinuro ko, inapply mo ba?’” David continued. “He doesn’t police what you do. He helps you take it step by step. Napaka-patient and positive lang niya.”
David’s tip to forex trading beginners is to listen to the advice of their instructor and to be aware of what’s going on around them.
“Pera po ang pinag-uusapan natin dito. Kailangan mag-focus, aralin ‘yung mga markets, [and] be conscious sa mga paligid natin like ‘yung mga nangyayari sa ibang bansa kasi naghehelp siya in your decision making,” he said.
He also advised people to be emotionally prepared for potential losses. “Accept mo na matatalo ka. Dapat ready ka sa mga nangyayari. ‘Wag mag-invest ng malaking pera kung emotionally hindi ka ready doon sa pwedeng mangyari sa’yo.”
