Ateneo Scholars’ Week 5 “ELEVATE: Step Up your Game”!

presents Ateneo Scholars’ Week 5 with the theme “ELEVATE: Step Up your Game”!

With around 1,500 scholars present in the university, Ateneo Scholars’ Week is Ateneo Gabay’s flagship project aimed at gathering the scholars’ community and enabling them to level up in what they are passionate about in the spirit of nation-building and in the end, serving as an inspiration and empowerment to fellow Ateneans. As an umbrella project, it is composed of the following individual activities:
September 1-5 | “Feels in the Blanks”, formerly known as Sponsor-A-Kid, is a fundraising effort of Ateneo Gabay which aims to raise funds through donations to buy school supplies, story books, and high school application forms of the ERYA kids from Balanti and Batino Elementary School. The project lasted for two weeks and because of the compassion and generosity of all the people involved here especially the ones who donated for the benefit of the kids, Feels in the Blanks was successful and was able to reach its goal in the end.
September 1-5 | The “Scholars’ Lounge” is a weeklong project hosted by Ateneo Gabay. The aim is to provide an avenue for relaxation and recreation for scholars amidst the pressure of academics and org works. Inspired by the Disney movie Up with a twist of a “cloud nine” feels, the Colayco Pavillion was colorfully and intricately designed such that it would create a homey environment – mats, huge stuffed toys, wii, study tables in addition to the hot-air balloon themed photobooth and exciting freebies. Film showing and group dynamics were also part of the daily program. Strategically located in the near heart of the campus, the Lounge was able to accommodate hundreds of scholars and successfully feature its sponsors to the community. In general, the Lounge was able to stir a buzz during the Scholars’ Week.
September 1 | “Take Off: The Scholars’ Game Show” is a part of the annual Scholars’ Week’s series of events hosted by Ateneo Gabay. This year, it was held on September 1, 2014 at the MVP Roofdeck. Hosted by Louie Cartagena and Ian Blanco, this year’s Scholars’ Game Show counted seventy participants who competed in a series of different group dynamic and individual games. The Game Show also gave away raffle prizes sponsored by Cha Dao, Sample Room, and Jugo Bar. Ultimately, one winner claimed the cash prize of P2000 and an Ateneo shirt sponsored by GetBlued.
September 3 | This year’s forum “Perspektibo: A Forum on Social Innovation,” focused on the power of social innovations in social work. Ryan Aguas from Bahay Kubo Organics, Paolo Agloro and RJ Aquino from The Spark Project, and Vin Dancel from Ritmo Learning club opened up their stories on how they started from simple dreams to the innovations that they are today. Bahay Kubo Organics shared how aquaponics provide food for the poor and promote environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, The Spark Project introduced the concept of crowd funding in order for innovators to find ways on how they can finance and make their ideas turn into a reality. Ritmo Learning Club exposed how they make learning fun for children by collaborating with Filipino artists to promote education through music. The event ended with an open forum where attendees were given the chance to ask from the speakers their experiences in their fields. Also packed with raffle prizes in between, the forum on social innovation provided insights on how simple ideas and interests could be catalysts for social change. Innovate to elevate!
September 5 | This years’ scholars’ party is themed Zenith which highlights the end of the celebration of scholarships in the Ateneo. Held last September 5, 2014 at Matteo Ricci Field, Scholars’ Party catered to at least 400 scholars who all watched various performances, received prices and enjoyed the night with their fellow scholars. The event ended with an open dance floor which the scholars shared as a grand finale of this year’s Scholars Week 5: Elevate.
