If you’re looking for something new in musicals, the people of Washington Heights are inviting you to their carnaval del barrio this February!

In the Heights is an award-winning show written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, winning four out of thirteen Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Mixing Latin beats with fast-paced and nuanced rap, In the Heights moved its way into its own deserving spot in Broadway canon with its distinct sound and complex lyrical structures.

The show follows the story of Usnavi, the owner of a small mom-and-pop bodega on the corner of Washington Heights, as he presents the various lives and his interactions with the vibrant people who live on his street: from Vanessa and her dreams of moving out of the barrio to the wise and motherly Abuela to the troubled Rosarios and their daughter Nina’s struggle with dropping out of school.

Taking you from the beaches of Puerto Rico to the concrete sprawl of New York City, In the Heights is a show that’s equal parts foot-stomping and heart-warming. It’s a story that is universally resonant, all while putting unique yet familiar spins on love and family: both the one you’re born with and the one you get to choose. Ateneo Blue Repertory and the cast and crew of In the Heights are ready to welcome you home!

Bringing you scenes and sensations you’ve never experienced before, we have Trency Caga-anan encapturing our set, Miggy Panganiban leading the lights and Chab Ocampo designing costumes. Under the direction of Jules Dacanay, alongside the talents of Ejay Yatco and Raf Bravo handling the ropes of music and choreography, respectively, In The Height will be running from February 3-21, 2015 at the Rizal Mini Theater in the Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City.
